Across Queens, the DA Centers the Community in Public Safety
The Queens County District Attorney’s Office seeks to re-imagine the relationship between the prosecutor’s office and the residents of Queens County by being an integral part of the community. Through numerous initiatives — including the creation of the Community Partnerships Division, the Youth Empowerment Unit, and the distribution of Violence Prevention and Youth Development Grants — the Office is working collaboratively across neighborhoods to create and realize a sustainable future for Queens.

The first contact that an individual has with a prosecutor should not occur in a courtroom or during a crisis. It should happen in a welcoming environment—such as a community event—where individuals can learn about available resources and services that the prosecutor’s office has to offer. That means prosecutors getting out into the community, listening to citizens, and building long-term relationships.
Toward this goal, the Community Partnerships Division in the Queens County DA's Office takes a multi-faceted approach to community engagement – providing opportunities for citizens to work collaboratively with the Office to make a positive contribution to Queens County. The Division reaches out to civic and non-profit organizations, develops programs, sponsors and co-sponsors events, and engages with every neighborhood throughout the borough of Queens.

Since 2020, the Queens County DA's Office has had a Large and Active Presence in the Community
Nearly every day of the year, the Queens County DA's Office is in the community, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to strengthening positive ties with citizens. Through this approach, the Office has successfully engaged the Queens community, fostering an environment where residents feel empowered to reach out to the Office for more than just assistance with law enforcement-related issues.

The Queens County DA's Office Invests Millions in Youth Development and Crime Prevention
A prosecutor’s Office has a role in the community that is broader than simply processing cases. As an organization deeply rooted in its local community, the prosecutor’s office has an opportunity to use its human capital and resources to improve the long-term social, economic, and cultural well-being of the community - to act as a stabilizing force in civic life. In addition to engaging the community through community events, the Queens County DA's Office also supports the community through Violence Prevention and Youth Development Grants.
In 2024, the Office announced $2.75 million in funding for 34 community-based organizations for the second phase of the Office's Community Youth Development and Crime Prevention Project (CYDCPP), which seeks to foster positive relationships between communities and law enforcement, reduce youth crime, improve young people's self-confidence, increase exposure to positive adult role models, and strengthen academic performance and school attendance. Since 2021, the Office has provided $5.45 million in funding for the community.
